Sub Class 309
When you are a de facto partner or spouse of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen you are eligible to apply for a Partner (Provisional) visa- Subclass 309. This is a temporary visa which allows you to live, work or study in Australia till your permanent partner visa (subclass 100) is finalized. You may be eligible for limited Medicare. You have to be sponsored by your de facto partner or spouse and be outside Australia when you apply for this visa. You can either be inside or outside Australia when your visa application is finalized. Should meet the character and health requirement.
Sub Class 820
When you are a de facto partner or spouse of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen and are currently in Australia on a substantive visa, you are eligible to apply for a Partner (Provisional) visa- Subclass 820. This is a temporary visa which allows you to live, work or study in Australia till your permanent partner visa (subclass 801) is finalized. A bridging visa will be granted when you apply for this visa. You may be eligible for limited Medicare. You have to be sponsored by your de facto partner or spouse and be inside Australia when you apply for this visa. Should meet the character and health requirement.

This visa consists of many streams.
Tourist stream
This stream is for those who want to visit Australia temporarily for the sole purpose of tourism, to visit family or friends or a cruise trip. To be granted this visa you have to prove that you are a genuine visitor with sufficient income and funds and have enough incentives to return back to your home country. This is a multiple entry visa with stay periods of 3, 6 and 12 months, depending on your circumstances. Those applying for a stay period of more than 3 months and/or people aged above 75 years have to undergo medical examinations. As there is no medicare coverage, it is advisable to have health insurance. You are not eligible to work on this visa, but can do a study programme of 3 months duration.
Business Visitor stream
This visa stream lets you visit Australia for business purposes only. You can attend business meetings, seminars, negotiate business deals, research business opportunities etc. You cannot work in Australia for any entity. But can do a study programme of 3 months duration. To be granted this visa you have to prove that you are a genuine business visitor with sufficient income and funds and have enough incentives to return back to your home country. This is a multiple entry visa with stay periods of 3 months. Depending on the circumstances it can be granted upto 12 months. Those applying for a stay period of more than 3 months and/or people aged above 75 years have to undergo medical examinations. As there is no medicare coverage, it is advisable to have health insurance.
